Genesee County govt director of anti-poverty company ...

GENESEE COUNTY, MI -- The govt director of the county's anti-poverty agency has all at once resigned from the department that administers courses like meals on Wheels and Head birth, without a permanent successor in area.

Matthew Purcell, who has labored as the top administrator within the Genesee County community action aid branch because November 2015, resigned beneficial Wednesday, Aug. 5, the county Board of Commissioners confirmed in a written remark to MLive-The Flint Journal.

In a letter to the Board of Commissioners, Purcell referred to the resignation came the equal day he met with board Chairman Martin Cousineau, D-Thetford Twp., and Director of Administration Josh Freeman.

"i used to be recommended that the board has decided to stream in a distinct path with the executive director place of GCCARD and my functions were no longer obligatory moving forward," Purcell's letter says.

Purcell become paid $104,500 yearly when he became employed as govt director and may be paid three months severance, in line with phrases of the decision that allowed for his hiring lower than five years in the past.

"The Board of Commissioners desire Mr. Purcell neatly in his future endeavors and are grateful for his virtually 30 years of provider, on their behalf, to the residents of Genesee County," the county's commentary says. "Ms. Stephanie Howard, deputy director at GCCARD, will take over on an interim basis except the Board of Commissioners come to a decision how they're going to fill the position completely."

Purcell worked for GCCARD for a total of 27 years.

Cousineau declined to touch upon the resignation Monday, Aug. 10, but Commissioner Ellen Ellenburg, D-Burton, observed the alternate in management is a part of a broader restructuring this is in the works at the company.

"He (Purcell) did a fine job ...," said Ellenburg, chairwoman of the county fitness and Human features Committee, which GCCARD reports to. "from time to time, I feel you need a new set of eyes" to seem to be at the challenges ahead.
